New Delhi: India is preparing to bring back nearly 700 Sikhs tortured in Afghanistan. They will be brought back in batches.
The first batch of returnees had landed in India on July 26 and received warm welcome from the Bharatiya Janata Party and ally Akali Dal leaders.
The first batch of Sikh returnees is living in a Delhi gurudwara and Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee is looking into the living arrangements for them. They are being accommodated in India under a long term visa arrangement.
Many in the first batch had lost their near ones in terror attacks in Kabul. The Citizenship Amendment Act allows religious minorities other than Muslims from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, fleeing religious persecution.
