India reports 89,129 new Covid cases; highest spike of 2021

New Delhi: Amid the second wave of coronavirus in India, a huge spike in infections was recorded on Saturday with 89,129 cases.

This is the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases since September 20 last year.

The fresh surge takes the active cases in the country to 6,58,909.

Meanwhile, 714 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,64,110.

According to the data updated by the Health Ministry on Saturday morning, 44,176 COVID patients, that is around half of the number of new cases, recuperated from the virus in the last 24 hours.

As per data:

  • Total cases: 1,23,92,260
  • Total recoveries: 1,15,69,241
  • Active cases: 6,58,909
  • Death toll: 1,64,110
  • Total vaccination: 7,30,54,295
