Indian football star Anirudh Thapa has tested positive for Covid-19 in Doha during ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers.
The young Chennaiyin FC star midfielder is in quarantine in a separate hotel room at their team hotel in Doha.
As Thapa tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday as he did not take part in India’s match against Asian champions Qatar on Thursday, India Football Federation sources said.
Notably, India lost 0-1 to Qatar in Doha after a good show of defensive discipline.
India is already out of contention for a World Cup berth but remains in the reckoning for the 2023 Asian Cup. They are currently at the 4th spot in Group E standings of AFC qualification.
