Ind vs NZ 2nd ODI: India Women beat New Zealand Women to win series
Mount Maunganui: Indian Women Cricket Team clinched the ODI series against New Zealand after defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the 2nd ODI at Mount Maunganui. With this victory, India took a lead in the 3-match ODI series.
Having bundled New Zealand out for 192 in the first ODI at Napier, India proved themselves to be superior after dismissing the Kiwis for 161 in the second ODI match.
Veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami 3/23 haul helped bowl the hosts out for 161.
India’s famed spin trio of – Ekta Bisht, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav picked up two wickets each successfully breaking partnerships of the host team.
New Zealand captain Amy Satterthwaite (71) played a crucial knock for the hosts but failed to find any support from the other end.
Smriti Mandhana then, with an unbeaten 90 eased the path for India’s win. Captain Mithali Raj, too, finished undefeated on 63 as India sailed to their target in 35.2 overs.
This is India’s second ODI series win in New Zealand and only their fourth in all bilateral series outside Asia against full-member nations.
It was a massive win and most importantly, under new coach W.V. Raman, the Indian eves have come out all guns blazing to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
