IGNOU to open study centres in 11 Odisha jails
Bhubaneswar: In order to provide education to the jail inmates, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) on Saturday announced to open study centers in eleven major jails in the state.
IGNOU Bhubaneswar regional centre assistant director Santosh Kumar Panigrahi said “We are planning to provide 18 certificate courses to the inmates,”.
As many as 244 jail inmates have already registered their names for 24 various study programmes. The facility has already been available in five jails, he added.
Besides, the university will introduce add-on courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students of 303 government aided and non-aided colleges of the state. The IGNOU will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Government in this regard, said an official.
These colleges will be provided with at least five certificate courses. The students willing to study in the college can get add-on skills by enrolling for the certificate courses, the official added.
