I don’t believe in choosing successor, let people do this: Naveen

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has made it clear that he doesn’t believe in choosing a successor and said people of Odisha will do this.

In an interactive session at the 8th edition of Odisha Literary Festival here on Sunday, Patnaik dwelt at length on the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.

Replying to queries posed by the chief editor of The New Indian Express Prabhu Chawla, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo said his party strongly backed the move in Parliament. During the interactive session with Chawla, the BJD chief talked about a host of measures including the triple talaq bill and other issues.

On his secret of fitness, the Odisha Chief Minister said he exercises twice a day and keeps an eye on his diet regularly.

Asked who is his favourite cricketer, Patnaik said the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is. When Chawla asked about his government’s decisions like the abolition of the guard of honour and renaming the State Secretariat, Patnaik said he wanted to throw away the British legacy. The secretariat was named Lok Seva Bhawan to demonstrate that his government is people-centric.

On a question about his autobiography, Patnaik said he has not thought about it and added if time permits he might think over it.

The CM said that he could not say about his favourite actor or actress as he has no time to watch films or television. Patnaik said he is yet to identify a favourite politician and also urged the students to serve the people of the state.

On investments in the sports sector, the Chief Minister said investment in sports is an investment in youth and hoped that Odisha in future will produce sportspersons of Olympics standard.

The BJD supremo said his government is working on 5Ts to provide effective administration to the people of Odisha and added that this principle has reduced the distance between his government and the people.

On a question about literature, Patnaik said his favourite writer is Fakir Mohan Senapati and opined that literature plays a great role to establish a better society. He said Sarala Das had written Mahabharat by using simple language. He has contributed a lot to the society, the Odisha Chief Minister further said.
