Huge elephant herd triggers man-animal conflict in Mayurbhanj villages
Mayurbhanj: A huge wild elephant herd strayed into the villages near Karanjia forest division in Mayurbhanj district triggering man-animal conflict in the area.
According to reports, the elephant herd consisting of 22 pachyderms entered the villages under Sudhiani forest range last night and pulled down the walls of several houses.
Besides, the jumbos also attacked two persons in separate incidents, killing one on spot and critically injuring another.
Sources said the elephant herd had been straying into the human settlement from the nearby forest.
Villagers informed the forest officials this morning who then rushed to the village and launched an operation to drive away the pachyderms from the human habitation.
The forest officials said the situation is being monitored and added that necessary steps are taken to control the situation, sources added.
