Jenapur: Jenapur Police in Jajpur district have seized a huge cache of explosives used for illegal blasting on hills, and arrested a person in this regard.
Police said, the arrested man, Sushant Kumar Behera (37), of Mukundapur village, was the one who illegally kept the explosives at his home and sold them illegally.
According to sources, Sushant had been involved in the business for a long time. After receiving information from a source, a police team led by Jenapur PS IIC Ashish Kumar Sahu raided his house on Sunday morning.
During the raid, 50 cases of IDL Power Gel, with an estimated weight of one and a half quintals, 20 bags of 50 kg weight of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, electronic detonators and other items were seized.
A case (41/21) has been registered against the accused and he will be produced in the court, said IIC Sahu.
It is learned that large quantities of smuggled explosives are being sold illegally for blasting hills in Boukhakhandi, Kusunupur, Baghua Nos. 1, 2, 4, etc. under Dharamsala tehsil. A recent example of this was the seizure of a large quantity of explosives from Mukundapur village by Jenapur police.
Reliable sources said that both the stone mafia used to buy explosives from accused Behera.
Environmentalists, on the other hand, have questioned how the police could not find clues as the illegal trade was going on just a few kilometers from the police station.
