More than 20 people were injured, with four sustaining serious injuries, in a honey bee attack during a wedding function in old Borigumma in Koraput district today.
The incident occurred when a puja was being performed some distance from the village.
As the villagers, including women and baja, began the puja, a woman offering incense inadvertently disturbed a beehive on a nearby tree. Hundreds of bees swarmed and attacked the attendees. Despite their attempts to shield themselves with umbrellas, over 20 people were stung, with four individuals suffering more severe injuries.
The injured have been admitted to Borigumma Medical for treatment. Authorities are investigating the incident and have urged caution during outdoor events near beehives.
