Holi celebrations banned in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana to curb COVID surge

New Delhi: Holi celebrations have been banned in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Haryana and other few states in the light of increasing cases of COVID-19.

Orders have been issued to ensure that celebrations for Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Ugadi, Good Friday and other festivals take place indoors in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19. No functions related to the festivals of Holi and Shab-e-Barat will be allowed at public places in Rajasthan on March 28 and 29 to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Rajasthan government said in an order that there will be no permission to organise public functions or gathering at public places to celebrate the festivals.

The Madhya Pradesh government is considering the imposition of a two-day lockdown in Indore amid rising cases of coronavirus in the state. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh has already said that in Indore festivals of all religions should be celebrated at home.

In a notification, Haryana Health Department has asked all deputy commissioners and all-district heads of police to ensure that celebrations don’t take place at public places on Holi.

In Karnataka, the state government banned Ugadi, Holi, Shab-e-Barat and Good Friday celebrations and directed the concerned officials to ensure that public gatherings and congregations during the upcoming religious festivals will not be allowed in public places, including parks, markets and religious places.
