New Delhi: India saw yet another surge of nearly 40,000 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike since November 29, the government data this morning showed.
The new 39,726 cases took the country’s tally to 1,15,14,331 total cases. With 154 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total number fatalities to 1,59,370.

Maharashtra on Thursday witnessed 25,833 new Coronavirus infections, the highest single-day spike since last March when the first Covid-19 infection was detected in the state.
Yesterday, the state logged 23,179 new coronavirus cases — nearly 30 per cent higher than the day before. As of March 1, the positivity rate was around 11 per cent for Maharashtra, which grew to more than 16 per cent. Over the last 24 hours, the figure has dropped marginally to 13.35 per cent.
The figures on fatality also reflect a similar trend, currently standing at 2.2 per cent.
