Heavy rainfall: Holiday declared for Ganjam schools

Ganjam: In view of heavy rainfall and waterlogging problems, Ganjam district administration has declared the suspension of classes in all schools across the district today.

However, teachers of both government and private schools are directed to be present at the schools.

The District Collector has notified the concerned authorities, Headmasters and Headmistress to suspend the classes and take necessary measures for safety and security of the school students.

All Anganwadi centres will also remain closed today.

It may be mentioned here that, heavy downpour since yesterday has triggered a water logging in the Silver city of Berhampur. Roads and low lying areas of the city were submerged in rainwater.

Residents continue to face problems due to waterlogging in Gajapatinagar, Brajanagar, Jayaprakash Main road, Prem nagar and Gate bazaar.

People in these localities either have to hop and skip over waterlogged spots.

Residents allege that drains continue to be clogged as the civic authorities are yet to initiate desilting process.

Locals said waterlogging is a common phenomenon in the area whenever it rains, irrespective of the duration of the rainfall.
