Bhubaneswar: The ensuing Dussehra festival which is coming closer may soak with heavy rains as the India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rain in coastal and interior parts of Odisha from October 1 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal.
“A cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge into northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around 1st October,” PIB tweeted.
The regional meteorological department director HR Biswas said the rainfall activities are likely to increase in the State from October 1. As Dussehra celebration will start from the same day, the rain may dampen the Puja spirit this year.
“The cyclonic circulation over West-central Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level persists,” Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, tweeted.
Some districts are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in the next 24 hours, which may continue till September 30. The districts which are likely to witness heavy downpour are Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundergarh and some parts of coastal Odisha.
On the other hand, the condition is favourable for the withdrawal of south-west monsoon in the next 3 to 4 days, Meteorological centre Bhubaneswar tweeted.
