Hathras Gangrape Case: UP Govt Forms 3-member Team, Asks To Submit Report In 7 Days

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday constituted a three-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into Hathras gangrape case.

The SIT has been asked to submit its report within seven days.

The probe panel will be monitored by UP home secretary Bhagwan Swarup. The panel will also comprise members from the Dalit community along with women members.

It is worth mentioning that a 19-year-old Dalit woman was assaulted and allegedly gangraped by four upper-caste men in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, on September 14.  After her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, triggering widespread protests.

She had suffered multiple fractures, paralysis and a gash in her tongue

Late on Tuesday night, UP Police personnel cremated the body of the Hathras rape victim in the absence of her family members even as they continued with their protests.
