Dhenkanal: Bhapur police outpost Assitant Sub Inspector (ASI), Padmanabh Sahu has been suspended following allegations of police inaction leading to the suicide of a minor girl, who was repeatedly harassed by a man. This was informed by IG (North-Central Range) Narasingha Bhol.
According to reports, the victim parents, residents of Dinabandhupur Chataka Sahi, had lodged a complaint with Bhapur police alleging that “On July 1st, Subash Muduli (28), of their village, barged into their house when no family members were present and tried to outrage their daughter’s modesty. However, the accused fled the scene after when she raised an alarm.
A complaint was lodged in this regard on July 6 with Bhapur police outpost under Dhenkanal Sadar area. But, the ASI let the accused go without taking any action. Following this, accused youth started harassing and abusing them and also threatened with dire consequences.
The victim’s parents alleged that on July 28, when they had gone to work on the farm, the accused again entered into their house and misbehaved with their daughter. Unable to bear the trauma, public shame, and police inaction, their daughter committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday night.
The deceased minor’s father has also submitted a written complaint to the Dhenkanal SP demanding strict action against the accused youth.
On being asked, Dhenkanal SP Anupama James said that allegations against police inaction will be probed and stern action will be taken against the accused.
When asked, some villagers said that around 7-8 such cases are still pending against him. It may be mentioned here that the accused is said to be a married person having two children.
Today, Sadar SDPO Sriharsh Mishra, Sadar IIC Sandhyarani Beura visited the village for an inquiry. However, the accused managed to flee the village much before the police could take any action against him, sources said.
