Gandhinagar: After Karnataka, Gujarat became the second state of the country to report Omicron variant of coronavirus, the state health department has confirmed.
Earlier, two persons from Karnataka had reported positive for the new variant.
According to the state health department, the 72-year-old came to Jamnagar via South Africa two days ago. After the man tested positive for Covid-19 during screening at the airport, the authorities sent his sample to Pune for genome sequencing.
The genome sequencing revealed that the person was infected with the newly discovered Omicron variant of coronavirus. The man is fully vaccinated. At least 10 people who came in contact with him have been quarantined and their test reports are awaited.
