Bhubaneswar: A high-level Group of Ministers (GoM) meet has decided to step up measures to combat COVID-19 (Coronavirus) as the number of cases is on the rise.
The video conferencing being presided over by Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari decided on Thursday that additional RT PCR Machines will be provided to Cuttack SCB, Burla VIMSAR and Puri’s virology centre.
The meeting also decided to provide one each RT PCR Machines to hospitals in Angul, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Kalahandi districts. These machines will be purchased from the district mineral fund, the Minister said.
The Minister said 26 labs, both in government and private sector, are engaged in testing over 6000 coronavirus tests per day and added that the number of tests could be increased by using TBI Kit.
The meeting was attended by state health Minister Naba Kishore Das. He said infrared thermometers will be installed at all the health centres and hospitals in the state and added that this system will be helpful for measuring the temperature of registered patients at these hospitals.
AYUSH director said the people should be careful before buying Ayurvedic medicines relating to coronavirus and added that they must verify that the medicines they are purchasing are not fake medicines.
Das said there is a need to undertake awareness programmes on COVID-19 and added that a guideline must be outlined by roping in specialists in Naturopathy, Ayurveda and Homoeopath for advising the people to boost immunity.
The Group of Minister meet was attended by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marndi, Women and Child Development Minister Tukuni Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, Managing Director of Odisha State Medical Corporation Yamini Sarangi and senior officials of health and family welfare department.
