Arjun Erigaisi has officially surpassed the 2800-Elo mark in classical chess ratings, as announced by the FIDE Rating on Sunday.
At 21, he is the 16th player ever to reach this milestone and the second Indian after the five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand.
Representing Team Alkaloid at the 2024 European Chess Club Cup, Arjun achieved this feat by winning against Russia’s Dmitry Andreikin with the White Pieces in the fifth round.
As of the December 2024 FIDE Rating list, he boasts a rating of 2801, placing him at No. 4 in the world rankings.
Earlier in the year, Arjun secured two gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad, claiming victory in both the team and individual categories.
His recent form has been outstanding, with victories including individual and team gold at the Chess Olympiad 2024 in Budapest, a second-place finish at the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament, and a joint-fifth place at the Sharjah Masters Open Tournament.
Additionally, he won the Menorca Open in April, edging out Grandmasters Kirill Alekseenko and Maksim Chigaev.
