Govt appoints Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as next Chief of Naval Staff


New Delhi: The government has appointed Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as next Naval Chief. The present  Naval Staff Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba will vacate on 31 May 2019.

Vice Admiral Singh, AVSM had assumed charge as Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff on 31 October 2015. He relieved Vice Admiral RK Pattanaik, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, who retired  after 38 years of glorious service in the Indian Navy.

He is AVSM and an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Commissioned into the Indian Navy in July 1980, the Admiral has earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982.

The newly appointed Naval chief has flown extensively on the Chetak, Kamov 25 and Kamov 28 Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) helicopters.
