Google Introduces New Song Finding ‘Hum to Search’ Feature

New York: Google is adding a new “hum to search” feature to its search tools that will let you hum (or whistle, or sing) the song that’s stuck in your head.

The new feature is available today in the Google app on both iOS and Android, or in Google Assistant — just ask Google “What’s the song” or tap the newly added “search a song” button, and then hum your song.

Google will then show you results based on how likely a match it thinks it is. Currently, the feature is supported in over 20 languages, and Google plans on adding more languages later on. “Hum to search” raises the bar for competing apps like Apple‘s Shazam, which have not developed a melody-detecting function as sophisticated as Google’s, so far.
