Mumbai: Google on Thursday dedicated its doodle to the iconic actor of the Indian cinema Madhubala popularly known as ‘The Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood’.
Celebrating the 86th birth anniversary of late legendary actress Madhubala, Google today has come up with a doodle of Madhubala’s image on its homepage.
Born on 14 February in 1933, Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi was raised in a town located near the Bombay Talkies film studio. She soon started supporting her family as a child star and became a leading lady in the Indian cinema.
She first appeared in 1947 as the lead role in Neel Kamal at the age of 14 and took on the screen name as ‘Madhubala’.
Appearing in over 70 films, Madhubala- was called “The Biggest Star in the World” in 1952 by Theatre Arts magazine.
In 2008, she appeared on a commemorative postage stamp in India, where she is remembered by many as one of the greatest to ever grace the silver screen.
However, she died on 23 February 1969 from a prolonged illness at the age of 36.
