Dehradun: At least 125 missing while 8 bodies were recovered even as rescue operations underway in Tapovan-Reni area of Chamoli District of Uttarakhand.
A glacier broke on Sunday led to massive flooding in Dhauliganga and Alaknanda rivers and damaged houses and the nearby Rishiganga power project.
Reports said at least 125 labourers working at the power project are missing. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has rescued all 16 people who were trapped in the tunnel near the Tapovan area.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat told the media that the number of missing persons might increase. Rawat also announced Rs 4 lakh financial assistance each for the families of those killed in the mishap.
Rawat visited the affected area to take stock of the situation and spoke to the officials of the state disaster management and Chamoli administration. Tapovan dam also called Rishi Ganga Project completely washed away.
