Girl gang-raped in Puri; police constable among four accused


Puri: In yet another shameful incident, a young girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in the government quarters near Jhadeswari Club in Puri on Monday.

According to reports, the survivor has lodged a complaint with Kumbharpada police stating that four persons arrived at the Nimapara bus stand when she was waiting for a bus to her native village in Kakatpur. One of them, claiming to be a police officer, asked to drop her home and took her to Puri where she was gang-raped.

The victim, however, managed to get hold of an identity card which purportedly belongs to a police constable identified as Jitendra Sethi, it was learned.

Following to complaint, police have detained the accused constable for further interrogation into the matter. However, the identity of the other three suspects, in this case, is yet to be ascertained.
