Cuttack: The Flying Squad of Excise Department seized ganja worth Rs 6 lakhs at Link Road in Cuttack City while being smuggled in a luxurious car on Saturday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, the flying squad intercepted a car on suspicion and found four gunny bags stashed with cannabis. Following this, three persons were arrested and the car seized.
The seized contraband was being smuggled to Medinapore from Aska area. The accused trio confessed this during interrogation, the police said.
It may be mentioned here that smuggling contrabands in luxurious cars have turned a safe modus operandi for smugglers. Many such instances have been surfacing on a regular basis, where smugglers are using luxurious cars and emergency service vehicles (Ambulance) to avoid suspicion and operate right under the nose of police.
While the kingpins of the ganja smuggling rackets remain elusive and lurk in the darkness, they prefer to target the young generation to spread their business on the pretext of high earnings. The arrested youth have also confessed that they got involved in ganja smuggling for higher income in a short span of time.
