From Poverty To Olympics: Remarkable Jounrey Of Archer Pravin Jadhav

New Delhi:  A 24-year-old Pravin Jadhav from Sarade village in Satara district is an inspiration for any athlete who is all set to bear the Indian flag in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Eyes brimming with enthusiasm and heart overflowing with passion Jadhav has now become another Olympics medal hope for the country. 

Jadhav who did not know much about archery 10 years ago, kept his nose to the grindstone and made his way for the Olympics.

Jadhav, a son of daily wage workers, Sangita and Ramesh, got encouragement to play sport came from Vikas Bhujbal, the sports teacher at his Zilla Parishad School in Sarade.

At the age of 8, he started running and taking part in competitions.

After one year of training at Krida Prabodhini, he was selected for archery.

He lost no time in entering the archery range in 2009. For the next six years, Jadhav was stationed at Krida Prabodhini in Amravati, Vidarbha, sharpening his archery skills.

The athlete then came to the notice of Bhujbal, who then took him for every competition at taluka and district level for the first four years. Jadhav then earned selection for Krida Prabodhini at Pravaranagar in Ahmednagar district at 12.

And now, he has been teamed up with Atanu Das and Tarundeep Rai in India’s men’s recurve side as well as in an individual capacity.

It is pertinent to be mentioned here that Jadhav, Das, and Rai earned their Tokyo games qualification at the World Archery Championships when the Indian men’s recurve team clinched silver in The Netherlands in 2019.
