Framing of charges against accused in AT group chit fund scam deferred


Bhubaneswar: Charges against the 21 accused in the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chit fund scam could not be framed in Special CBI Court here yesterday as three of the accused filed discharge petitions. The special court sets the next hearing date on April 2

According to sources, discharge petitions were filed by BJD MLA Pravat Tripathy, former Advocate General Ashok Mohanty and Model Preeti Bhatia. Among the accused of the chit fund scam are politicians, media house-owners and businessmen. However the court will hear the case after charges are framed.

Notably, the Special CBI Court had sentenced AT Group MD Pradeep Sethy with 7 years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 30,000. The court also ordered him to deposit Rs 250 cr which will be returned to the duped investors, failing which his assets will be attached.

Moreover, Manoj Patnaik, director of the group was sentenced to four years in prison and pay fine of Rs 10,000.

As per sources, like Sethy and Mohanty, some other accused persons in the scam might confess to the charges leveled against them.
