Four persons arrested from Berhampur for links with Mumbai underworld
Berhampur: The Mumbai Crime Branch with the help of Berhampur police arrested four persons on Saturday for having suspected links with Mumbai underworld.
According to sources, a Mumbai-based builder has received a ransom call from Hong Kong from one Suresh Pujari, who said to be an associate of Mumbai underworld don Chhota Rajan. The builder was asked to pay Rs 2 crore as extortion money.
Investigating into the matter, the Mumbai Crime Branch (CB) came to know that the call was made from the city. Later with the help of local police they arrested one person from Chattrapur and three persons from the city.
One Pradip Chaudhury is alleged to be the kingpin of the racket. The police have seized five China-made SIM boxes from the possession of the accused. The police said through the SIM boxes international calls can be diverted and the caller’s identity can be kept secret but the receiver thinks that he had received a local call.
The police are further investigating into the incident as this type of case is being reported for the first time in the State.
