Rasulpur: Kuakhia Police nabbed four operatives of an inter-state looters’ gang from Kacheri ground under Narasinghpur police limits in Jajpur district in the wee hours of Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the ground at around 1.45 am and apprehend four persons while some others managed to gave a slip in the darkness.
The arrested persons have been identified as Laxman Das (24), & Manoj Das (26) of Akarpada village in Jajpur, A. Lachhna (40) of Thengapalli in Aska & Kulia Apna (35) of Kodala area in Ganjam district. Three bikes, 5 mobile phones, machetes, cutters, lock breaking tools, and Rs 12,860 have been seized from them, the police said.
During interrogation, the accused persons confessed to have been involved in a number of criminal activities including highway loots and dacoity cases in Jajpur town, Mangalpur, Jenapur, Bhadrak, Sukinda, Tihidi, Dharmashala and Badachana areas. The operatives of the looters’ gang were staying in a rented accommodation through accused Laxman Das, the police added.
It may be mentioned here that unidentified looters had made away with Rs 1.85 lakhs from Siba Prasad Baral, a teacher of Haripur area, last month. Police have reportedly recovered Baral’s Aadhar card from the rented house in Jaraka, which was a hideout of the looters’ gang. After proper verification of documents, the recovered amount will be returned to Baral, sources in the police said.
Kuakhia police have registered a case (3339/19) and Sub Inspector RK Das is investigating the case, sources added.
