Four of family held for setting daughter-in-law ablaze


Sundargarh: Four members of a family were arrested on Thursday on charges of burning their daughter-in-law alive at Koilagate area in Rourkela on Tuesday.

As per reports, Radha Kumari, daughter of Shiv Kumar, a resident of Gopabandhupali area in Rourkela had married Binod Singh, a resident of Koilagate area in Rourkela, six years ago. They had a 6-year-old daughter.

On February 11, Radha’s in-laws had thrashed her after she became pregnant with her second girl child. They allegedly set her ablaze afterwards.

Radha was rushed to Rourkela IGH in a critical condition, where she gave birth to a baby girl.

However, the newborn died while undergoing treatment at the hospital and later Radha also succumbed to her burn injuries.

Based on the complaint, police have arrested Radha’s husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. The exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

The reason behind the murder of the woman will be revealed after the post-mortem report arrives, police said.
