Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested four notorious criminals involved in looting locked houses in and around Bhubaneswar.
According to a press note released by the DCP office here, the criminals were zeroed in during a drive by the CP’s special squad assisted by Khandagiri police. One mouser, 3 live bullets, two cars (Ford Endeavour & Maruti Suzuki Swift), 150 gms of gold ornaments, four bikes, five LCDs, one music system and one laptop have been seized from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Satya Singh alias Ganesh Purty (26), Sadam alias Sk Sadam Hussein (26), Balia alias Balaram Nayak (22) and Pradip Kumar Sahu (38), who used to receive and dispose of the stolen valuables, the police said.
“The modus operandi of the gang was to target closed or locked house in the city and steal valuables along with the vehicles. In the recent past, some costly vehicles were reported stolen from the garages. Besides a number of burglary cases was also reported in Airfield, Khandagiri and Tamando area,” the Commissionerate Police said and added that the miscreants apprehended by the special squad today were behind the series loots.
The Twin City police department also informed that arrested accused Ganesh Purty is a history-sheeter and several criminal cases are pending against him at different police stations of Bhubaneswar. Besides, Sk Sadam has also gained notoriety for involvement in several criminal cases in Bhubaneswar and Puri district, the police added.
Reportedly, the four notorious criminals have confessed about their involvement in at least seven burglary cases and further investigation is underway. Khandagiri Police has registered a case (28/19) under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC in this regard.
