Four held for smuggling Sal wood in Kandhamal

Kandhamal: Forest department personnel have arrested four persons from Brahmani village under Balliguda sub-division of Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district on charges of smuggling Sal wood.

The accused were identified as Aapu Majhi, Sunesh Muthamajhi and Gurubari Majhi from Brahmani village and Kanhu Charan Mahakud from Badagada village under Surada block of Ganjam district.

According to reports, the seizure was made when the timber mafias were smuggling sal wood-laden mini truck bearing registration OR-07E-5785 from the forest to Badagada.

Acting on a tip-off, Baliguda ranger Pradeep Behera with other personnel conducted a raid and nabbed the timber smugglers while seizing 15 wood logs and the mini-truck used in smuggling.

A case has been registered under Sections 80/19-20 of IPC, against four persons and forwarded them to the court.
