Former Congress leader Padmalochan Panda joins BJP
Balasore: Former Congress MLA from Simulia, Padmalochan Panda joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and state party president Basant Panda at ‘Mishrana Parva’ held in Soro in Balasore district today.
Panda had resigned from the primary membership of Congress on October 7, through a letter to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik.
Later, at a press meet Panda had said that he deserted Congress due to infighting among the party members and lack of coordination.
The senior leader had served as the minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and Panchayatiraj departments from February 22, 1999 to March 5, 2000 under the Congress Government.
Panda had been elected as MLA from Simulia Constituency in Congress ticket for three occasions in 9th, 11th and 13th Assembly elections and is considered as a strong leader in Balasore district.
