Former Chief Justice of Gauhati HC Ajit Singh appointed as first Lokayukta of Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Ajit Singh has been appointed as the first Lokayukta of Odisha on Saturday.
Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal approved his name following the recommendation of the State government’s selection committee.
A seven-member search committee had unanimously finalised his name at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on February 12.
The office of the Lokayukta, which will work as an anti-corruption watchdog, will start functioning from April 8, 2019.
Born on September 6, 1956, Singh practised on civil, criminal and constitutional sides in the High court of Madhya Pradesh and has been appointed as Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002. He became permanent Judge on March 21, 2003 and later transferred to Rajasthan High Court on March 5, 2016.
Notably, Odisha became the first State in the country to pass the Lokayukta Bill in the State Assembly on February 14, 2014.
