Former CESU DGM’s assets worth over Rs.8.33 lakhs confiscated

Bhubaneswar: A Special Court today ordered to confiscate property worth Rs 8.33 lakh of Energy Department’s former DGM Damodar Dash following a plea by the Odisha Vigilance.

The learned Authorised Officer, Special Court, Bhubaneswar today has passed  order for confiscating assets worth Rs.8, 33, 528/- of Sri Damodar Das, Ex. DGM, Electrical, CESU, Bhubaneswar in a confiscation case filed by Odisha Vigilance vide No. 13/15. which includes immovable assets i.e. land measuring an area of 0.29 dcml. vide plot No.1402 under Khata No.427 at Mouza-Naharkanta, Bhubaneswar and another plot measuring an area of 0.05.5 dcml. vide plot No.216 under Khata No.15 at Mouza-Pahala, Bhubaneswar and movable assets (Bank & Postal deposits and 1 Hero Honda Pleasure motorcycle).

Sushil Ekka, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division, A/p-DSP, Vigilance Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Sri Girija Prasad Pattanaik, Special Public Prosecutor, Court of Authorized Officer, Special Court, Bhubaneswar was conducting the case on behalf of the Vigilance.

Earlier, Das, Ex-DGM was convicted on 25.08.2022 in the DA case lodged by Odisha Vigilance vide Bhubaneswar Vigilance for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) PC Act, 1988 for possession of disproportionate assets. Das was also convicted on 30.3.2012 in a trap case lodged by Odisha Vigilance and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay fine of Rs.30,000/- for the offence U/s 7/13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act, 1988.

In all DA cases against senior ranks, Odisha Vigilance is simultaneously launching confiscation proceedings in Spl. Courts established for the purpose, for confiscation of their properties.

With a motto of zero tolerance to corruption, the Govt. of Odisha was foremost in the country to enact the Spl. Courts Act, 2006 for speedy trial and confiscation of property of public servants holding high political and public offices who have accumulated properties, disproportionate to their known sources of income by resorting to corrupt means.

Odisha Vigilance is committed to take strong action against corrupt practices by government/public servants, including confiscation of properties acquired through corrupt means, in the future.
