New Delhi: Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate triggered protests and violence last year, has been granted the license to carry a gun.
Nupur Sharma was given the license by Delhi Police for self-protection after she requested it, officials said today.
As per the report, Nupur Sharma had recently moved a plea before the licensing unit of the Delhi Police citing danger to her life and sought permission to carry a gun round-the-clock for self-defence. The plea was allowed after seeking opinion and taking into consideration the gravity of the matter.
On May 26, 2022, Nupur Sharma made a contentious remark against the Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate. This sparked violent protests at several locations and calls for Nupur Sharma’s imprisonment. There was also the possibility of beheading.
Sharma was part of the news debate on the Gyanvapi mosque issue. During which she made certain comments about Islam and the Prophet Mohammed that sparked off widespread outrage in the Muslim community.
