Forest Guard Gets 4-Yr RI In Bribery Case

Phulbani: A Vigilance Court here today sentenced a forest guard to four years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) after convicting him in 2018 bribery case

The convicted forest guard, Manoranjan Amat, is currently posted at Karada forest range under Raikia block.

According to reports, during his service at Tikabali forest range, Amat was caught taking Rs 5,000 bribe from a tribal man, Srimukha Kanhar, hailing from Sircakuti village in Sankarakhol.

The Vigilance sleuths caught Amat red-handed while accepting the gratification and arrested him. A case 21/18 was registered in this regard.

Taking up the case for hearing, Phulbani Vigilance Judge Satyapira Mishra sentenced convict forest guard Manoranjan Amat to four years of RI and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In case of non-payment of the penalty amount, the convict shall undergo another six months jail, the court ruled.
