Five dead, over 15 hurt as coal-laden truck hits bus in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: As many as five persons were killed while more than 15 others were injured after a speeding coal-laden hyva truck hit a bus carrying labourers from a plant on Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Biju Expressway on Friday.

According to reports, the coal-laden truck collided with the bus head-on near Power House Chhak on the Jharsuguda bypass road. The bus was ferrying labourers from the JSW plant to Jharsuguda.

On intimation, police reached the spot and rescued the victims with the help of locals. The injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital in 108 ambulances.

The deceased persons have been identified as Rajendra Tiwari, Sher Bahadur, Brijpal Singh, Pankaj Jha, and Vikash Kumar. Six seriously injured persons have been referred to Burla while four are undergoing treatment at Jharsuguda. A team of eight doctors have been assigned to monitor and treat the patients,” said Collector Saroj K Samal.

Four deceased persons, identified as Rajendra Tiwari, Sher Bahadur, Brijpal Singh, Pankaj Jha, were received dead at DHH while another person, Vikash Kumar, was received dead at Samaleshwari Nursing Home, said CDMO Dolamani Patel. He added that about 18 persons have been discharged after first-aid at DHH OPD and the death toll may rise.
