Five CRPF jawans martyred, 3 injured in terrorist attack in J&K’s Anantnag

Srinagar: At least five CRPF jawans were martyred and three others injured in a terrorist attack in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The CRPF personnel killed in the attack were identified as ASIs Neeru Sharma and Ramesh Kumar, constables Santender, MK Kushwa and Mahesh Kumar.

The incident took place in the afternoon when motor-cycle borne terrorists opened fire at a CRPF patrol party on the busy road near Oxford Presentation Institute on Khanabal-Pahalgham Road in Anantnag with automatic rifles. The ultras also hurled grenades at the security personnel.

While five CRPF personnel were killed, three including Anantnag police station SHO Arshid Ahmad were injured in the attack.

Pro-Pakistan terrorist group Al-Umar Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack on CRPF and police party.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies said that Al-Umar Mujahideen is a defunct terrorist outfit and this attack looks like a handiwork of Jaish-e-Mohammed.

This is the first major attack by militants since the Pulwama attack on February 14. It comes just weeks ahead of the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra on the same route.
