Wellington: The Indian women’s cricket team lost by 23 runs to New Zealand in the first T20 International at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday.
Chasing 160 runs, India opted to bat but unfortunately, the top batting order collapsed soon from 102/1 to 117/6 in just five overs.
Mandhana and Jemiamah Rodrigues (39 off 33 balls) combined for a 102-run second-wicket stand but in vain.
Meanwhile, Mandhana became the fastest Indian woman to reach the 50-mark off 24 deliveries. The 22-year-old smashed three boundaries and seven sixes in her entertaining 34-ball knock. However, she was dismissed by Amelia Kerr for 58 runs when India were 102 for two.
From bowlers side, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav claimed a wicket each for India.
The next game of the series is scheduled to be held in Auckland on Friday.
