Bhubaneswar: Pahal police here today arrested an employee of the fire department on charges of raping a nurse under the pretext of marriage.
The accused, identified as Jitu Ranjan Das (35), a native of Laxminarayanpur village under Derabish police station in Kendrapara district, has been arrested and forwarded to the court, the police said.
According to reports, the victim has been working in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for the past one and a half years. A few months ago, Das befriended her on a social media platform and allegedly raped her after developing a relationship.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the police investigated the case and arrested the accused. During the investigation, the accused confessed to his crime.
According to Pahal police, the accused was found to be booked in two more rape cases registered at two different police stations in Cuttack while further investigation of this case is underway.
