Denmark started their WC campaign with a tie against Tunisia in FIFA World Cup 2022 at the 40,000-capacity Education City Stadium in Doha.
Tunisia were never the favorites to win tonight’s match against Denmark, a team playing its sixth World Cup and have only once in their World Cup history been knocked out in the group stage. However, Tunisia managed to hold their nerves and put in a great defensive display against Denmark to end the match in a goalless tie.
Denmark are the third team to draw four consecutive World Cup matches, after Belgium (five between 1998-2002) and Republic of Ireland (four in 1990). There were 24 shots without a single goal between Denmark and Tunisia.
The Scandinavians, ranked 10 in the latest FIFA standings, won nine games on their way to FIFA World Cup 2022. During the qualification round, Denmark lost just one match and are hopeful of making it far in this one too. To make it through Group D, Denmark, apart from Tunisia, will clash against defending champions France and Australia.
Tunicia, ranked 30 in the world, are also playing their sixth World Cup. The Carthage Eagles have never managed to go past the group stage in their World Cup history and now have a disappointing World Cup record of 10 losses and two wins in 16 World Cup games. Denmark and Tunisia played against each other for the first time at the World Cup. Both teams last met in 2002 in a friendly match with Denmark beating Tunisia 2-1.
