Bhubaneswar: One of the grey wolf, that was brought in a pair, died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here on Thursday, official sources informed.
According to sources, the cause behind the death of the female wolf is yet to be ascertained.
On being informed, zoo authorities and the veterinary team reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem. The actual reason behind the animal’s death will be known after the autopsy arrives, officials informed.
In September last year, the NZP received the pair of grey wolves, as its new inmates, as a part of the animal exchange program. The wolf-pair was brought from Mysore in Karnataka State by exchanging a pair of mouse deer.
The grey wolf is considered an endangered species. It is a canine native to the wilderness and remote areas of Eurasia and North America.
