Jharsuguda: Tension prevailed at Jorabaga Chhak along the Bandhabahal-Belpahar road after a man and his minor son were killed in a road accident and locals staged a demonstration demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.
The accident took place within Belpahar police station limits in Jharsuguda district when a speeding pickup van hit a motorcycle at Jorabaga Chhak killing the father-son duo on the spot late in the evening. Soon after hitting the bike, the pickup van sped away.
According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Mohammad Mehfuz Alam of Rehmat Nagar in Belpahar and his eldest son Mohammad Adil, a minor.
Following the tragic death of the father-son duo, scores of locals blocked the road stretch demanding compensation for the family of the deceased and action against the pickup van driver for rash driving that claimed two lives, sources said. The locals have staged a road blockade disrupting vehicular movement.
On intimation, police reached the spot to calm the locals and seize the bodies for further investigation. Lakhanpur Additional Tehsildar and Brajrajnagar SDPO were at the scene to take stock of the situation till the last report came in.
