Deogarh: Vehicular movement has been disrupted on National Highway-49 in Deogarh district since this morning as farmers staged road blockade protesting irregularities in paddy procurement at Mandis.
The farmers of Balama village staged a road blockade by placing paddy sacks on the road on the NH-49 over the alleged irregularities in paddy procurement.
Following this, hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on both the sides of the NH.
On intimation, police rushed to the spot. Negotiation with the agitating farmers is underway to resolve the issue, sources said.
On February 4, the farmers had also staged a demonstration on National Highway-53 over the same issue.
On the other hand, Congress workers have staged a protest in front of Malkangiri Collector’s office alleging lapses in paddy procurement in the district.
