Farmer commits suicide over crop loss in Kandhamal


Kandhamal: A farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide due to alleged crop loss at Kilupada village under Nuagaon block in Kandhamal district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Govardhan Mallick of the same locality.

According to sources, Govardhan had cultivated paddy on 3 acres of land last year. But he faced crop loss due to flood. Depressed over the loss, Govardhan decided to end his life and consumed pesticide on Tuesday.

He was initially rushed to Nuagaon hospital and later was shifted to Baliguda hospital after his health condition deteriorated. He, however, died while undergoing treatment this morning.
