Farmer commits suicide in Kalahandi over crop loss, loan burden
Kalahandi: A 28-year-old farmer from Gambhariguda village under Koksara block in Kalahandi district died on Thursday after consuming poison over alleged crop loss and loan burden. The deceased has been identified as Paramananda Lahjal of the same village.
According to family sources, Paramananda allegedly consumed poison last night and was admitted to Bhawanipatna hospital, where he succumbed to death this afternoon.
The deceased’s kin claimed that Paramananda took the extreme step, as he recently suffered crop loss in his four acres of paddy field due to lack of irrigation facility. Besides, he had also taken Rs 35,000 loan from a local self help group and was under extreme pressure to repay it after crop loss.
However, it cannot be immediately confirmed whether the farmer committed suicide over an outstanding loan and crop loss as being claimed by his kin.
