Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police claimed to have busted a fake currency notes racket and arrested at least persons in this connection. The cops seized fake currency of Rs 97, 000 from their possession, S.P PR Rahul said. The fake notes were in the denomination of Rs 100 (918) and Rs 500 (8).
The accused were identified as Mohammad Irfan (24), Istafaq Ansari (32) from Gobindpur of Sambalpur district, and Mohammad Azmal (20) from Khadam of Lakhanpur block.
Reportedly, the matter came to the fore when one of the accused had gone to a petrol pump situated in Swadhin complex, where he used the fake currency notes. Suspecting the authenticity of the denomination, the petrol pump owner informed the Banaharpali police.
On being informed, police launched a probe and nabbed Azmal. After interrogating Azmal, he revealed about the operation of a fake notes manufacturing unit in Sambalpur district.
Reportedly, police raided the counterfeit notes manufacturing factory and arrested two persons from the spot.
A case (186/20) has been registered and the accused has been forwarded to the court. An investigation into the case is underway, sources said.
