Experts team fail to tranquilise tigress Sundari, 2nd phase ops on

Angul: The six-member team of experts from Bhubaneswar who reached Kumuri village of Angul district last night failed to tranquilise Royal Bengal tigress Sundari in their first phase attempt on Tuesday.

According to sources, the forest officials missed their first shot to tranquilise tigress Sundari and to bring her back into the enclosure. Despite tracking the big cat with the use of GPS tracking, the tigress manged to give a slip to the forest officials.

The second phase operation to trap the tigress is underway and Sundari is likely to be captured by tonight, said a forest official.

The team comprises experts from Bhubaneswar-based Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT), gun assistants from Nandankanan Zoological Park and Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII). Experts from Similipal has also joined the team in the operation.

Reportedly, the expert team is also accompanied by two platoons of police forces.
