EOW nabs two pvt firm directors for Rs 8.40 lakh fraud
Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two directors of a real estate company for allegedly defrauding a man on the pretext of providing land.
The accused duo has been identified as Chandra Sekhar Pati, Managing Director of M/s Ascend Creation Private Limited and its director Niranjan Pati.
According to the sources, the accused persons had collected a huge amount of money from Tarini Ranjan Sahoo of Laxmisgar area for providing land and later misappropriated the amount.
As per the complaint registered by Sahoo, the duo had allegedly taken Rs 8.40 lakh from him to provide a plot measuring an area of 4000 sq.ft, at Mouse-Ghangapatna in Bhubaneswar.
Although the accused persons had no absolute rights over the property, they fabricated documents and registered the land in the name of Sahoo’s son.
Acting on the complaint, police launched a probe. During the investigation, it was learned that the duo had collected Rs.8.40 lakh with the help of fabricated documents.
The investigation further revealed that accused duo had cheated a large number of customers promising them to provide them lands at Mouzo-Ghangspotna and Paikoropur in Bhubaneswar.
The accused duo has been charged under Sections 420/406 of IPC of OPID Act, 2011 and forwarded to a special designated court in Cuttack.
Further investigation into the matter is underway, the officials said.
