Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested a man on charges of availing Rs 2 lakh loan by producing forged documents.
The arrested has been identified as Debadutta Samantaray (47), a resident of Tikanpur village under Patkura police limits of Kendrapara district.
According to sources, the arrested was made following the complaint of General Manager (Vigilance), Odisha Gramya Bank, Bhubaneswar.
According to the complaint, at least 148 fake loans were sanctioned under KGB Personal loan scheme to the tune of Rs 2.96 crore in Bilahat Branch of Cuttack district between 2011 and 2012.
The loans were availed by submitting forged documents and showing the beneficiaries as teachers of different UP/ME/High Schools. The accused persons joined together in a criminal conspiracy for getting such loans sanctioned and disbursed.
The investigation revealed that the Samantaray had availed a loan of Rs 2 lakh on June 4, 2011, by producing fake and fraudulent documents showing himself as a Hindi teacher of Raichand Girl’s High School in Kendrapara district.
Earlier, as many as 16 accused persons including the then bank manager and field officer of the Branch were arrested and forwarded to court.
Besides, 74 accused persons have been arrested and released on bail on different dates as per the orders of the High Court of Orissa, Cuttack.
